Barbara Hernandez, Psy.D., LMFT, LPCCDr. Barbara Hernandez is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Doctor of Psychology. She received her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Mount St. Mary’s College, Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and her Doctorate of Psychology from Ryokan College. Her theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and her specialties are domestic minor sex trafficking, attachment disorders and childhood traumas. She has been working with minors in the child welfare system for over 18 years. Early in her career, Dr. Hernandez worked as a Foster Care Administrator for various agencies, in which she managed 50 to 300 children in out-of-home care placement and over 100 foster homes in LA County. More recently she holds the position of Vice President of Residential Services for Crittenton Services for Children and Families.
Throughout the years, Dr. Hernandez has worked closely with Los Angeles Department of Probation, the Department of Children and Family Services, and the Department of Health and Human Services - Office of Refugee Resettlement in providing a variety of intensive therapeutic services to children and families both in the community and in residential placement. She currently supervises Residential Treatment, Therapeutic Behavioral Services, Chemical Dependence, Family Preservation, and Group Home After Care. One of the most recognized programs that Dr. Hernandez is currently heading is that of Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC). Her knowledge of attachment, trauma and the CSEC population have led her team to provide the most comprehensive services available in Los Angeles, Orange and other surrounding counties.

Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC) is a growing issue in the US and with so much training and awareness, we now know that it is happening right here in Los Angeles County. However, now that we have become experts at identification we are left with unanswered questions pertaining to the risk factors, assessment, and clinical treatment of CSEC. This training will address the clinical aspects of CSEC, as well as provide an understanding of how unresolved complex trauma has impacted the CSEC population.
